através do Design

How to develop inclusive education through design? Considering architectural barriers, how is access to school spaces guaranteed for blind and deaf people? I produced this project in 2019 trying to answer this question in practice. I presented the proposal to the academic community at IFBA Campus Jacobina, in Bahia, for visual signage. Aimed at inclusive access for blind and deaf people, with the purpose of promoting greater autonomy for these subjects, assisting in their development in the context of the school space and facilitating their insertion into contemporary society. Nowadays, it is essential to think about the role of design with regard to the conception of interfaces that seek to reduce historically demarcated social gaps and the invisibilities of people with specific needs in the school context.

The design of prototypes

The methodology applied to design the prototypes and graphic pieces developed and presented to the academic community was structured based on the methodology proposed by Bruno Munari. In particular, blind and deaf students on campus were consulted to enable sensitive listening about which accessibility barriers the prototypes could address with more emphasis. In this sense, it is essential to respect the needs of each student. The data presented in this research were collected from the display of simulated models in computer graphics and the filling out of a form with questions pertinent to these models.

Presentation to the school community

Construí os protótipos criados em computação gráfica e apresentados à comunidade. Fotografei o campus onde imaginei que pudessem ser mais bem localizados os protótipos. Na área externa, projetei um totem com tela sensível ao toque com o programa VLibras installed. I designed a map model of the tactile floor for access to the campus and signposts for the rooms and sectors of the school with the description in Pounds It is Braille. I exhibited the models in computer graphics. This allowed the academic community to envision and reflect on accessibility as a real possibility for inclusion in the educational space. One of the results of this proposal was to realize that the internal community was able to actively guide policies to promote projects about inclusive education and demand from school managers the implementation of proposals that aim to reduce the barriers that hinder the full realization of a truly inclusive education. .
